age 88, formerly of Canton, Ohio passed away peacefully at the Good Shepherd Hospice of Lakeland, Fla. on Tuesday morning, April 2, 2013 of complications of pneumonia. Sylvester was born in Breese, Illinois to George and Anna Hentschel on Feb. 19, 1925. He attended Josephinum High School in Columbus, Ohio. He received his Bachelors of Sacred Theology degree at Our Lady of the Lake University in Mundelein, Illinois and his Masters Degree at St. Louis University. He was an auditor of Savings & Loan Companies for the State of Ohio for 31 years. Since his retirement, he donated his time as an AARP Tax Consultant. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Fr. Cletus Hentschel, George Hentschel Jr., and sister Anna Marie Woody.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Donna Jean (Lowe) and daughters, Sandra (Charles) Sturm, St. Johnsbury, VT and Susan (Fred) Renzella of Glen Dale, W.V. He had four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Joseph Hentschel and sister Mary Ann Hentschel, both of St. Louis and numerous nieces and nephews. For over 50 years, Sylvester was an active member of the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Canton, Ohio. He enjoyed participating as an usher and a member of the funeral choir.
Arrangements are in the care of Lanier Funeral Home in Lakeland, Fla. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Massillon, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Good Shepherd Hospice-Palm Terrace of Lakeland, Fla. for the purpose of blessing other families.
