age 91, of Canton, passed away Monday, Oct. 21, 2013 peacefully in the home of his loving daughter. He was born in Tennessee on Nov. 21, 1921 to the late William and Myrtle (Brantley) Stiner. Monroe was a World War II Army Veteran serving in the Battle of the Bulge, where he received the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three bronze stars. He was employed at Hercules Engine for 18 years and then retired from the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier after 30 years. Monroe was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers branch 238 and a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans. He was an avid sports fan of all the Ohio teams. Monroe enjoyed bowling, playing ball and had a love for golf, taking yearly golf trips with family and friends. His kind and gentle ways will be deeply missed.
In addition to his parents, Monroe was preceded in death by his loving brother, William Stiner, Jr.; and loving sister, Mildred Cole. He is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Carl Springer. 'Popo' was devoted to his granddaughters, Jessica (Brian) Deeds and Kelcie Springer; brother-in-law, Bill Cole; and numerous Stiner family members also survive.
The family would like to thank Crossroads Hospice, Mercy and Select staff, Dr. Tirmonia and Dr. Johnson. The family would also like to thank neighbors Jean Bane for her compassion and John and Sandy Lightbody. Funeral Service will be held 10 a.m. Friday in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 710 Tuscarawas St. W. with Rev. Les Peine. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
