James Vrungos
Age 90, of Canton, passed away Friday morning, Feb. 7, 2014, in Bethany Nursing Home. Born in Kokomo, Ind., and raised in Canton, Ohio. A son of the late Effie and George Vrungos, he had been a Canton resident from 1925 thru 1945 and again 2007 thru present. James graduated from Canton McKinley High School class of 1941, enlisted in the Army and served in the Signal Corp of the Pacific Theater during World War II. After the war he graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a BS in Chemistry. Upon graduation James worked for Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio, Hughes Aircraft, Los Angeles, California and Electronic Control Systems, Los Angeles, Calif.. James retired from TRW's Aero Space Division, Redondo Beach, California as Director of Government Marketing in 1992 after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Riviera Country Club in LA and the Manhattan Beach Tennis Club in Manhattan Beach, California, enjoying both golf, tennis, as well as fine cuisine and international travel.
In addition to his parents James was preceded in death by a brother, Gus Vrungos and sister, Helen Deal (James). Survived by Elizabeth, wife of 22 years, Dorothy, the mother of his three children of West Hills, Calif., Craig (Debbie) of Whidbey Island, Wash., Kim of Los Angeles, Calif., and Shelley of Sunset Beach, Calif.; nieces, Barbara Hale of Centennial, Colo., and Cassandra Hale (David Pasco) of Canton; grand niece, Cassandra Van Horn Anderson of Mill Valley, Calif., and grand nephew, Paige Van Horn of Denver, Colo.
