Ralph J. Nau
age 85, of Canton, passed away on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 in the Rose Lane Health Care Center of Jackson Twp, following a brief illness.
Ralph was born in Canton on July 26, 1928, to the late Roman G. and Amelia (Shoeppner) Nau; also preceded in death by two sisters, Rosellie Miller, Irene Drozda, five brothers, Elmer, Bernie, Donald 'Zip', Clyde and Bobby Nau.
A 1946 graduate of McKinley High School, he then attended Fenn College, now Cleveland State. Employed as a regional manager of three states for the Seaboard Finance Company, Canton office for 20 years after which he proudly founded his own company, Crescent Finance; retiring at age 55. After a few years, he grew tired of retirement life and ventured into real estate working for Perkins Reality, Caldwell Bankers, and Cutler Reality for over 30 years. A member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church of Canton, member and past-Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Canton Council #341, Canton and Plain Twp Rotary Clubs, 50+ year member of the Canton YMCA. Ralph enjoyed all sports; his favorite past-times included fishing, hunting, skiing and sailing.
Survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Irene (Scroggs) Nau, married on Dec. 15, 1951; daughter, Deborah (Irving 'Buddy') Marks of Columbus; grandchildren, LCDR Michael (Danielle) Marks of Chespeake, Va., Julie Marks of San Francisco, Calif.; great-grandson, Kellan Marks; and brother, Paul Nau of Michigan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church of Canton on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. with Fr. Robert Kaylor officiating. The family will accept friends same-day from Noon ‘til time of service also in the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the , Greater East Ohio Chapter at www.alz.org.
