Adriel Brady Thrash
75, passed away suddenly on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at his home in North Canton. He was born in Akron on Sept. 19, 1938, to Blossom (nee Brady) and Theodore Thrash. Adriel graduated from Kenmore High School in 1957. He earned a degree in education from Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa, and taught school for three years before receiving Christ's call to ministry. He then earned a Master of Divinity degree from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Naperville, Ill., and a Doctor of Ministry degree from St. Mary Seminary in Cleveland. As an ordained United Methodist minister, Adriel served several churches in the East Ohio Conference throughout his career, and he also served as the District Superintendent of the Cambridge District. He was passionate about facilitating small groups and teaching caring and communication skills. A talented artist, Adriel designed and constructed stained glass windows and art pieces to give to people facing difficulties. In retirement he loved to travel with cousins and friends, he loved mentoring young people who were called to ministry, and he loved to spoil his grandsons.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Avis Thrash; daughter, Wendy Martens and husband, Tom of North Canton; son, Todd Thrash and wife, Marjorie of Williamsburg, Va.; grandsons, Logan Martens, Evan Martens, Carter Thrash, and Miles Thrash; sister, Sharon Schaible and husband, Jerry; sister, Kay McClintick; and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends at Church of the Lakes in Jackson Township on Friday, Feb. 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22. at 11 a.m. at Church of the Lakes. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Adriel Thrash Memorial Scholarship Fund at Church of the Lakes. Funds will be used to support students preparing for ministry.
