Ralph J. Shaffer
86, of Wilmot, died unexpectedly on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at his home. He was born in Mogadore on Dec. 8, 1927 to the late Lester and Rosie (Domer) Shaffer and married Ida (Stotzer) Pepper on June 28, 1977. She died May 21, 2009. Ralph was a World War II Army Veteran and retired in 1988 from the Norfolk and Southern Railroad in Brewster. He was a member of the Wilmot United Methodist Church, the Canton Swiss Club, the Ohio and American Gourd Society.
He is survived by children, Vicky (Jim) Mackey of Massillon, Violet (Larry) Parnacott of Canal Fulton and Vernon (Dawn) Shaffer of Massillon; stepchildren, Diane Reeb of Columbus and Eugene (Cinde) Pepper of Brewster; six grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; six great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, LeRoy, Harvey and Lester; and a sister, Pearl Judd.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Spidell Funeral Home in Brewster with Pastor Scott Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Wilmot. Friends may call on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
