Franklin Arnold M.D. Obituary
Franklin John (Jack) Arnold, Jr., M.D.
82, passed away peacefully in Atlanta, Ga., after a long illness, surrounded by loving family on March 17, 2014. Jack Arnold was born on March 7, 1932 to Franklin J. and Margaret Hamill Arnold in Glen Ridge, NJ. He was raised in Canton, Ohio and graduated from Lehman High School (1950). After earning a BA in biology from Williams College (1954) he graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in 1958. While in medical school, he met a sparkling and accomplished young woman pursuing a BS in nursing who would be the love of his life, his bride, Jane (Wattleworth) Arnold. He completed a pediatric residency at the University of Rochester/Strong Memorial Hospital (1961). He then served as a physician in the United States Army until 1963 where, among other contributions, he issued the newly available oral polio vaccine to the children of military families.
Jack spent his career as a pediatrician in Canton in private practice and later with the North Canton Medical Clinic Center. While serving the children and families of his community, he and Jane also raised four children of their own. Jack was an avid golfer and skilled woodworker. Over the years he created many beautiful pieces of furniture which are lovingly cherished by his family. He and his wife retired to beautiful Seven Lakes, N.C., in 1989, where they built their dream home and spent many happy years playing golf and enjoying their many Winsford Circle and other friends. He lived his life and chose his friends based on the values he held dear – honesty, integrity, humility, family and service and generosity to others. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Jane, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage, and his sister, Patricia (Arnold) Wood.
He will be deeply missed by his four children, Franklin J. Arnold III (Judy), Kathryn E. Arnold (Phillip Nissen), Robert W. Arnold (Janelle), and Michael L. Arnold (Alicia), and grandchildren Amy Arnold Morrison (Christian), Ryan Arnold (Katie), Shawn Arnold (Theresa), Shannon Arnold Clester (Shaun), Matthew Arnold, Andrew Arnold, Brooke Trizzino (Joe) and Ryan Williams (Stephanie Conrad). He also leaves behind 11 great- grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.
Jack's life will be celebrated at a memorial service at the Arnold Funeral Home, 1517 North Market Avenue, Canton, Ohio, on Saturday, April 12, 2014. Calling hours will begin at ll:00 am and a memorial service will follow at 12:00 noon with Rev. C. David Morgan officiating. He will be interred with his beloved wife, Jane, in Seven Lakes, NC, at a date to be determined later this year.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Hattie Larlham Foundation, 7996 Darrow Rd., Suite 10, Twinsburg, OH 44087 or online at: hattielarlham.org, in service to disabled children and adults in Northeast Ohio.
