Betty Jane Wilcoxon Obituary
Betty Jane
'Fashioned so slenderly; so young and so fair.' is the quote next to the senior picture of Betty Jane Edwards in the McKinley High School yearbook, 1936. Fair enough to catch the eye of McKinley swimmer and fellow hall monitor, Ray Wilcoxon. They married in 1940. A graduate of Kent State University, she was a member of Delta, Delta, Delta. She worked at the M. Conley Company when Ray joined the service and eventually joined him out west where he was part of the Strategic Air Command. Their lives were strongly intertwined. They built their first home together in Steiner Heights in 1955 and their retirement home together in North Carolina. They made ceramics together, played golf together, played bridge together, traveled the world together, and yes they even slept together. They had no children but were nonetheless richly blessed. Jane Wilcoxon died Tuesday morning, April 22, 2014 in the early hours of a warm and starry night in Canton, Ohio. She was 95. True to the yearbook description, she was slender and fair to the end. She was born in Canton, Ohio, the daughter of E. M. and Eva Laurene (Minnick) Edwards, and was deeply proud of her Welsh heritage.
A sister, Eva Laurene Boerner preceded her in death. Her beloved, Ray, passed away in 1995. Survivors include two nephews, John Boerner of Canton; Ed Boerner of Merrimack, N.H.; two nieces, Cindy (Boerner) Mazda of New Hope, Pa. and Sue (Boerner) Motts of Canton, all on whom she had an extraordinary, life-changing and positive impact.
She was known for her quick wit and sense of humor and sometimes a sharp tongue. She was careful with money (maybe less so when it came to shoes). She had a wonderful life here and now her life is even better, reunited with Ray.
A memorial Service will be held 7 p.m. Thursday evening in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave. NW with Chaplain David Oliver Kling officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. A private inurnment will be held for the family. Instead of flowers, Jane would want you to save that money, (unless you find an amazing pair of shoes). You may sign our guest book at shriverfuneralhomes.com.
