Shirley Josephine Williams
was born August 27, 1931 in Chicago, Ill. to Paul and Josephine Edwards. Surrounded by her loved ones she closed her eyes and departed this Life Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center at 1:45 p.m. and transitioned into Heaven at 1:45 p.m. Shirley lived in Canton for the past 75 years and was United in Holy Matrimony to Robert 'Jake' Williams for 57 years. She was a long Faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church and later joined Union Baptist Church under Pastor of Rev. Sherman Martin.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Robert 'Jake' Williams, her father and stepmother, Paul and Lucille Edwards, mother, Josephine Edwards, grandparents, Myrtle and Clarence Edwards, sister, Marion Wallace.
Shirley was a devoted wife, loving mother and faithful loyal follower of Christ. Shirley was known for her warm sweet Spirit, kind Heart and unconditional Love for all.
She leaves to cherish her memory five children, Kavetta (Keith) Freese of St. Louis, Mo., Paulette (Preston) Curtis of Canton, Ohio, Robert Earl Williams Jr. of Libertyville, Ill., Brian (Renee)Williams Sr. of Canton, Ohio, Kevin Williams of Canton, Ohio; one sister, Myrtle Williams of Canton, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Services will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Union Baptist Church. Visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
