Mary Catherine (Nussbaumer) Chambers
Was called Home after a lengthy illness on May 12,2014. Mary was born on Oct. 23, 1927. She was a lifelong resident of the Massillon/ Canton area. She attended Mt. Marie Academy (Central Catholic) and graduated in 1945. She attended Mercy School of Nursing (Canton) and graduated in 1949 as an RN. Mary was employed as a private duty nurse throughout much of her career and then transitioned to being an Industrial nurse for Massillon Steel Castings; and finally was employed as a peer review nurse by the State of Ohio at Massillon State Hospital. She was also a long time member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority in Canton. She enjoyed traveling, cooking and reading her Bible. May God hold you in the palm of His hand Mom. Thank you for simply being our Mother and friend on Life's path.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Mary Nussbaumer; son, Mark Allen Chambers; brother, B. Joseph Nussbaumer; sisters: Helen Wagner and Shirley Dixon. Survivors include Guerney M. Chambers; sons: Michael Scott (Jean Pasqualone, dear friend) from Alexandria, Va., Scott Allen Max (Jasemine); and granddaughters: Meredith, Aidan and Delaney from Bethesda, Md. Her granddaughters were the Love of her life and she spent many happy times with them during their summer visits, their graduations and other various social activities. Also survived by a sister, Linda (Stephen) Allen of Uniontown, Ohio; and sister-in-law, Jean Nussbaumer of Massillon; and brother-in law, Richard (Beverly) Chambers of Canton; Mary had several nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly: Mary Burkett, Amanda and Stephen Allen, Brian Wagner, Lisa Head and Doug Dixon and Bernie, John, Robert and Mark Nussbaumer and Chris (Nussbaumer) Gross and Joann (Nussbaumer) Clark, and Richard Chambers and Nancy (Chambers) Kennedy, Linda (Chambers) Simon and John Chambers. She will also be missed by her other dear friends throughout the area whose friendships she valued deeply.
Family and friends may call Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Reed Funeral Home (Canton Chapel), where a celebration of Mary's life will be held at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Demetri Mittas officiating.
