Hattie Marie Elliott Obituary
Hattie Marie (Jones) Elliott
age 87 was given her wings and went home to be with the Lord Tuesday June 17, 2014 after an extended illness. Hattie was born Aug. 26, 1926 to the late Joseph Sr. and Sally (Brown) Jones in Huntington, West Virginia. She was a 1944 graduate of McKinley High School. Hattie later met and married the love of her life, David Elliot, March 12, 1949, and to this union six children were born, Hattie and David were married for 60 years until his passing Jan. 18, 2010.
Hattie was a tireless worker and in addition to being a mother and homemaker, she worked multiple jobs and retired from the Players Guild and Cultural Center of Canton.
Hattie was a pioneer member of Union Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her illness. She previously serves as a Youth Leader, Sunday School Teacher, member of the Ushers Board and Mothers Board. She was also a member of the Adah Chapter #112 Order of Easter Star where she serves as the Financial Secretary for many years.
Hattie was preceded in death by her parents and husband; son, David Elliott Jr.; brothers, Joseph Jr., Charles, John and George Edward Jones; sisters, Elizabeth and Catherine Jones and Juanita Goodman; granddaughter, Gennie Elliott; son-in-law Phillip Torrence and daughter-in-law Norma Elliott; brother-in-law, Willie Elliott Jr.; sisters-in-law, Essie Gilmore and Cassie Jones; aunt and uncle, Elizabeth and Gus Majors with whom she lived with when her family relocated to Canton. She leaves to cherish her memories and legacy to three sons, Charles Sr. (Suk Cha), Rodney Sr. (Tina) and Michael (Alvena) Elliott; two daughters, Denise (Sam) McLeod and Cheryl Richardson-Torrence; sister, Annabell Jones of Anniston, Ala. and brother, Jessie (Carolyn) Jones of Canton, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Eva (Donald) Tarver, Beulah Jones and Marlene Elliott; and step-brother-in-law, Stanley Davis; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives, friends and surrogate children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Home going services will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 1pm at Union Baptist Church, 413 Cornelia Avenue N.E. in Canton, Ohio.  Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service.  Pastor Sherman Martin will be eulogizing.  Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery.
