Ian Walter
age 77, of Louisville passed away peacefully on Thursday July 31, 2014 surrounded by his wife and family after brief nine month battle with mesothelioma.
He is survived by his wife Donna; his children, Sande (David) Griebner, Beth (Brad) Sommers, Sherri (Palmer) Barr; his daughter-in-law, Helen Blanford; his step-children, Chris (Joe) Evans Pam (Glen) Meeker, Daryl Royer; grandchildren, Claire and Jordan Griebner, Hannah (Will) Leister, Brandon and Brittany Sommers, Noah, Evan and Andrew Barr and Shane Woodward; three great-grandchildren, Hattie, Alyssa and Cohen; his sisters, Ruby Pikulik and Doris Walker. He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Mary and his three brothers, Charles, Clyde and Paul and his son, Todd Blandford in 2009.
Ian graduated from Louisville H.S. in 1955 and served eight years in the Navy Reserve. He worked for Standard Plumbing and Heating 45 years and was a member of the local #94 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. He was a longtime member of Fairhope United Methodist Church and kept the church warm with his smile, generosity and boiler talents. Ian lived his life with a strong sense of work ethic, integrity and honor. His sense of humor carried us all through some difficult days.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Stier-Israel Funeral Home in Louisville, OH. with Pastor Joe Wright and Rev. Scott Hayward officiating. Calling hours will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday and 10-11 a.m. Monday morning at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park, Canton, OH. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the 'Boiler Fund' at Fairhope UMC, Louisville, OH.
