Walter Ramey
age 72, of Canton, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2012 in the comfort of his home, following an extended illness. He was born in W.Va. on July 29, 1940 to the late, Denzil and Willie Marie Ramey. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1963-1965. Walter retired from Republic Storage following 30 years of employment as a press operator. He was known as a handyman and could fix anything anyone brought him. He enjoyed helping people and fishing. He will always be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Freddie Ramey. Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years, Joyce Ramey (Heiser); two sons, Joseph (Amy Aileen) Ramey and Roger (Kristen) Ramey; three step children, Chris (Roger) Bell, John (Natasha) Fryberger and Viktoria (Matt) Lee; grandchildren, Luke, Jacob and Trent; eight step grandchildren; siblings, Eddie (Chris) Ramey, Fletcher (Joanne) Ramey, Garnett (James) Davis, Wilma Ramey and Tommy (Dianna) Ramey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff with Senior Independence Living, especailly Chris.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home North Canton Chapel, 801 Pittsburg Ave. NW, with Pastor Bob Linsz officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Senior Independence Hospice, 1815 W. Market St. Akron, OH 44313.
