Margaret
Catherine (Persell) Galati
age 83, passed into eternal life on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Massillon, Ohio to the late Margaret (Scharold) and Joseph C. Persell. She was a 1946 graduate of Mount Marie Academy and a 1949 graduate of the Mercy School of Nursing. Margaret worked as a nurse at Mercy Hospital and Massillon State Hospital. She met Dr. Gaspare Galati (Vallelonga, Italy) at Mercy Hospital, fell in love, and they married in 1959. She worked as his office manager at his private urology practice until his death in 1983. Margaret was a dancer and an actress and spent many hours at the Canton Players Guild and Canton Ballet. She played the lead in 'Street Car Named Desire.' When she wasn't on stage, she worked back stage as a stage manager or painting sets. Margaret was a lead dancer for three years with I Gagliardi Italiani, an Italian dance and vocal group in the 1970's.
Margaret is survived by her children, Greg of Atlanta, Ga., Paul of Canton, and Elisa (Keller) of Medina; daughters -in-law, Karen (Gonzales) and Theresa (Roman); son-in-law, Jerry; four grandchildren, Andrea, Christopher, Tony, and Nicholas; three great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas Persell; and three nieces. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Joseph.
Margaret loved life and lived it to the fullest. She will be remembered for her spunk, generosity, and loving heart.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's Catholic Church with Fr. Edward Beneleit as Celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church. Lamiell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be made to:
