William Frederick Young, Sr.
was born May 24, 1927 in Canton, Ohio to the late Jesse and Mary (Patty) Young. William departed this life after a long illness at The Woodside Village Assisted Living Facility in Bedford, Ohio Nov. 5, 2012. William graduated from McKinley High School, Canton, Ohio and attended Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. He was drafted into the Armed Services and served in the Korean War receiving an honorable discharge. While attending Ohio State University, he met and later married Amy Elizabeth (Smith) Young. From this union, one son William F. Young, Jr. was born. This union between Amy and William Sr. lasted 54 years until Amy's death in 2007.
William graduated from Fenn Business College (Cleveland State University) with a degree in Business. Following several years of employment with the American Greetings Corporation, he was employed by Tremco manufacturing as a Business Analyst. After retiring, he remained active with his fraternity (Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc. pledge class 1946 at Ohio State University), the Credit Union affiliated with his church, and through volunteering with a number of charitable organizations. William was an active member of St. Marks/ Trinity Presbyterian Church for more than 50 Years.
William's survivors include one son, William F. Young, Jr., M.D.; daughter-in-law Doris Elizabeth Troy-Young; granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Young; brothers, Paul Young (deceased), Jesse Alfred Young (deceased) and Carl Young; sisters, Etta (Palma) Pullin (deceased); Nannie Goodloe; Eunice Pressie (deceased), Rebecca Kale, Aramenta Green; and a multitude of additional family members and friends.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date with the R.A. Prince Funeral Services Officiating.
