Ted K. Camp
83, of Canton, passed away Feb. 26, 2013 in the Canton Christian Home, after a lengthy illness. Born June 21, 1929, in Canton, the son of the late Raymond and Velma Haley Camp. He was a graduate of McKinley High School and enjoyed having lunch with class members once a month before his illness. He attended Bethany College and Bowling Green University before entering the Navy, where he proudly served during the Korean War. Ted and his father were the owners of Camps' Machine Products Co. A man of strong Christian faith, he was one of the founding members of the Greenwood Christian Church, Canton, where he served as an elder and Bible School Teacher for many years. He served 36 years as Trustee of Round Lake Christian Camp with 20 years as Chairman. He was a 66 year member of the Canton YMCA. While in high school he taught life saving classes there and continued his fitness at their club with many of his friends. Ted was active in scouting, having earned his Eagle Scout and working four summers at Camp Tuscazoar. Among his many hobbies, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, camping, swimming, softball, handball, horseshoes, golf and jogging.
On Feb. 23, 1952, he married Shirley Zinninger, the love of his life for 61 years. Also surviving are two daughters, Lori Clark and her husband, Kim of Canton and Cheri McIlvaine and her husband, Rob of Washington, Pa.; four grandchildren, Aaron and Amanda Clark and Craig and Sara McIlvaine; and many close friends.
Funeral service will be Friday 11 a.m. in Greenwood Christian Church with Tony Amerine officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday (today) from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the church and 45 minutes prior to the service on Friday. A special thank you to the staff, nurses, aides, therapists and dietary department at the Canton Christian Home for their care and kindness and to Aultman Hospice for adding their comfort to Ted and his wife and family during their difficult time.
