age 68 of Massillon, passed away on April 1, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center. He was born Sept. 20, 1944 in Canton, Ohio to the late Pete and Gina (Pecile) Melchior. Pete was a 1962 graduate of Canton Central Catholic High School where he met Judy, his high school sweetheart and wife of 48 years. At Central Catholic, Pete was named all city, all county, all Ohio and all American football player and he accepted a football scholarship from Purdue University. He worked at Heinz USA as national corporate manager of distribution and inventory and retired after 30 years of service. Pete enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. He loved playing golf, handball, and sitting by the pool with his family and friends. For many years Pete enjoyed nights at Lucia's restaurant with his life-long friends. Pete was hoping to live long enough to see the Cleveland Browns win a Super Bowl championship. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Reno and Anita (Cavalier) and Enzo and Norma Jean (Lotz).
He is survived by his loving wife, Judy; three children, Gina Maragas (Doug), Peter Melchior, and Kelly Mastriacovo (Paul); grandchildren Natalie Melchior and Samatha Maragas; mother-in-law, Beverly Yoerns; brother-in-law, Jeffrey Yoerns; sisters-in-law Cheri Leach (Rich La Monica), and Sandy Melchior; niece and nephew, Dr. Jane Long (Steve) and Steve Melchior (Linda); great nieces and nephews, Brooks Long (Katie), Marie Long, Dustin Melchior, Marisa Melchior, Tara Kline, Todd Leach (Melissa), and Tim Leach (Tammy).
Calling hours will be Friday, April 5th from 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Arnold Funeral Home, 1517 Market Avenue North, Canton. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday April 6, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Edward L. Beneleit officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
