Robert E. Hoobler
Age 93, of Waynesburg, passed away Monday morning in Hennis Care Centre in Bolivar. He was born in Dellroy, a son of the late Earl and Pearl (Magee) Hoobler, and had been a Waynesburg resident all his life. Bob was a 1938 graduate of Waynesburg High School. He was retired from Whitacre- Greer Fireproofing Co., after 47 1/2 years service, where he was Refractory Sales Manager. Bob served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941-45, with the 88th Infantry, nicknamed the Fighting Blue Devils, as a 1st Lieutenant in Africa and Italy. He was awarded a Purple Heart, Bronze Star with Clusters, and a Campaign Ribbon with three battle stars. Bob was a 67 year member of Sandy Valley American Legion Post #432, and served as Commander for 12 years; also a member of the Waynesburg Business Association, the Waynesburg Historical Society, AARP, the Hall of Fame Luncheon Club, Retired Military Officers Association, charter member of New Orleans National World War II Museum, and the Browns Backers Club. He and Anita had been Cleveland Browns season ticket holders for 37 years. Bob was a die-hard fan and never gave up on them. He also had served on the Quad Ambulance Board and was a member of the Waynesburg Volunteer Fire Department. Preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Hoobler.
Bob was very proud of his family and is survived by his devoted wife, Anita M. (Rugani) Hoobler, with whom he celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on Oct. 22, 2012; two daughters and a son-in-law, Bobbie Hoobler, of Akron, and Cheryl and Bruce Minnick, of Canton; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Jason (Jacque) Croston, and their children, Cameron, Benjamin, and Kelsey, of Uniontown, Jennifer (Aaron) Brown and their sons, Samuel and Caleb, of Gibsonia, Pa.; one step-granddaughter, Gretchen Minnick, and a step-great-granddaughter, Shannon Yoder, of Charlotte, N.C.; and his right hand man, Buzzy Mastrione.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Fr. Joseph Zamary officiating. Interment in Sandy Valley Cemetery with full Military Honors.
