Jack Saling Obituary

Jack E. Saling
81, of Minerva, passed away, Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013 at Canterbury Villa Of Alliance following a long illness. Jack was born in East Rochester, Ohio on Dec. 9, 1931, a son of the late James A. and Rosa M. (Ramsey) Saling. He farmed all of his life and was a long distance truck driver retiring from Central Transport. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of American Legion Post 357, 40 et 8, and the Minerva Area Historical Society.
Jack is survived by his wife, Shirley (Pennock) Saling; two daughters, Kathy Jo (Mark) Smithers, of Chelsea, Ala. and Gloria "Gordie" Jean (David) Donohue, of Minerva; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters; two sisters, Ruth Johnson, of Tennessee, Emma Brown, of Minerva; and a brother, James (Linda) Saling, of East Rochester and Florida. He is preceded in death by brothers, Everett, Jr., Marion, Charles W. "Bill", Clarence; sisters, Edna, Bertha, Lola, and Loritta.
Funeral Services will be held at the Great Trail Community Church of God, Minerva, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013 with Pastor Ray Martin officiating. Calling hours will be held Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Bartley Funeral Home. Burial will be in Augusta Cemetery. Friends may express condolences at our website: www.bartleyfuneralhome.com.

Uncle Jack was a one-of-a-kind man.
There are several memories I could share, but the one that meant the most to me was when Debbie and I was first married.
Uncle Jack knew that we didn't have much money for a nice vacation, so he offered to let us use his camper at Pymatuning Lake. We were able to take our children there several times and we made some great memories. It was a kindness that Uncle Jack and Aunt Shirley showed us that has never been forgotten.
He has left a good mark on this world and he will be missed by many.
Rest in peace Uncle Jack.

I can always remember at Halloween when I was younger he would always steal my candy. Then I got smart and left it in the car. He was always pulling jokes on me and I always fell for them. There was never a dull moment when he was around. He will be greatly missed

I will always remember him taking me water skiing at Lake Mohawk back in the early 70's. FFwd to 2010 spent an hour in his driveway talking about the nesting swans next door. It was a pleasure to have known him.
