Jean Liston Obituary

Jean M. Liston, 96, passed away on Sept. 3, 2012, in San Francisco, Calif. In celebration of her life, a memorial service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church in San Francisco on Sept. 21, 2012.
Jean was born April 19, 1916, in Iowa Falls, Iowa, and grew up in Elmwood, Neb. She graduated with a B.A. degree from Mount St. Scholastica College in Atchison, Kan., in 1938.
Jean and her high school sweetheart, Jim Liston, were married in the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Evergreen in1939; they owned and operated Liston Lodge the 1940s and 1950s. The Liston family sold the lodge and moved to San Francisco in 1957. The lodge was subsequently remodeled several times and is currently the site of Cactus Jack's Saloon.
Jean led an active life in San Francisco and was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and several social and professional organizations. She retired at the age of 70 after working 30 years at Presbyterian Medical Center in San Francisco. Jean enjoyed traveling and music of all kinds, but was happiest when spending time with her family and friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim, and sister Rosemary Spaun. She is survived by her daughters, Rebecca Liston Roach of Fort Worth, Texas, Ann Liston Zolezzi of San Rafael, Calif., Mary Jane Liston Wiscomb of Carson City, Nev., and Margaret Rose Liston Kennings of Martinez, Calif.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and loving friends.
