Berniece Ella Heuer, 87, passed away July 23, 2013, in Evergreen.
Bernie was born in Rochelle, Ill., to Frank and Stella Krahenbuhl on Jan. 6, 1926. She taught dance at the Arthur Murray dance studios in Chicago. She was a member of the Chicago Mountaineering Club, where she met her husband of 59 years, Hans J. Heuer.
Bernie was a big part of the Evergreen community for a long time. She spent the early years as a food service worker at Bergen Elementary in order to be close to her children. She retired after a successful 26 years of food service work.
She was also a long-timer with her thriving Avon business, for which she gave the better part of 30 years. She had many loyal customers who gave her much joy over the years. She did well with her business because the personal relationships that she established meant more to her than any paycheck she ever received for her efforts. Bernie was the epitome of a people person and will be sorely missed.
Bernie was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Stella; two brothers, Frank and Laverne; and a sister, Doris.
Bernie is survived by her husband, Hans; children Kurt and Lisa; nieces Diane, Heidi, Jilda and nephews Roger, Andy and Steve; and grandchildren Leah, Carl, Ian, Katie and Keith.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Mt. Evans Hospice and Life Care Center of Evergreen for their support in her final days.
A celebration of life service was held at Evergreen Lutheran Church on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013.
