Frances M. Savage passed away peacefully on March 3, 2013, at Life Care Center of Evergreen, her residence of five years.
She was born on Sept. 25, 1916, in Oak Park, Ill., as Frances Matilda Kvarnberg, a daughter of Swedish immigrants, and raised in Muskegon, Mich. As a young woman, she loved baseball, bowling, bridge and golf, and worked with her younger sister, Elsie, in their father's local meat market. "Fran" or "Frannie" is what her family, church friends and neighbors lovingly called her.
She married Donald L. Savage, also of Illinois, in 1940, who died in 2006 after 65 years of marriage. Moving to Southern California in 1959, she enjoyed gardening, nurturing her award-winning roses and needlework.
Working in the accounting departments of various California-based companies, she gained friends and enjoyed her other favorite pastime of working with numbers. Traveling with Don, an experienced pilot and Cessna owner, gave them many opportunities to see the United States and Mexico in their retirement years. It was in 2004 that they settled in Evergreen, residing at the Rocky Mountain Village Estates until Don's death.
Frances is survived by her daughter Barb Chiarella of Evergreen and her son Chet Savage of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; and three grandchildren, Dee Tidwell and Jennifer Iacino, both of Colorado, and Brian Savage of California. There are five great-grandchildren, two of whom she delighted in while living in Colorado.
Her genuine sweetness, gentle touch and beautiful blue eyes will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mt. Evans Hospice; 3081 Bergen Peak Drive, Evergreen, CO 80439-2200.
