Longtime Evergreen resident Mrs. Gertrude P. "Trudi" Field passed away peacefully on April 11, 2013, in Tyler, Texas, at the age of 86.
Trudi was born on Aug. 30, 1926, to Clifford and Mary Will Palmer in Thomson, Ga., where she lived until moving to Atlanta for business school. There she met her beloved husband, Arthur M. Field, whom she married on July 31, 1948. Their two children, James H. and Pamela J., were born in Texas and raised in Tarzana, Calif., and Anchorage, Alaska, where Art's geophysical work had taken the family.
Trudi and Art moved to Evergreen in 1972, where they lived for 40 wonderful years.
Trudi was a consummate hostess, cooking, baking and entertaining for family and friends with utmost grace and energy. She was also an avid bridge player and found life-long bridge partners wherever she went. She especially loved to travel, making annual trips to Europe and Alaska throughout her adult life. Her grandchildren were particularly dear to her, and thus, memories of her kindness and wise counsel will live on through them.
Trudi was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, earlier this year. She will be greatly missed by her family: daughter Pamela J. and son-in-law Daniel W. Strickland of Palmer, Alaska; their children, Auberin, Dunedin, Eirin, Lukas, and his wife, AdriAnne; son, James H. Field of Carbondale; sister Annette and brother-in-law J.C. Langham; and numerous nieces and nephews in Georgia and Tennessee.
The family requests that donations be made to a charity of choice in Trudi's name.
A private memorial service will follow later this summer when the family reunites in Palmer, Alaska.
