Lon A. Huckaby(1952 - 2014)

Lon A. Huckaby, who was born Oct. 14, 1952, in Lawrence, Kan., passed away suddenly Jan. 22, 2014, in Roseburg, Ore.
He graduated from Evergreen High School with the class of 1970. He was devoted to his family as a son, husband and father. Thousands of students were musically inspired through his 30 years as a K-12 music teacher and band director (two years in Nebraska, 20 years at Gilpin County Schools in Black Hawk, and eight years in Oregon). As a talented musician, he loved performing with a Dixieland jazz band, rock group and community musicals. His love of sports started at a young age. In particular, he played golf and always watched the Denver Broncos and University of Kansas basketball teams.
Lon leaves behind his wife of 24 years, Dawne; daughter Amber of Nevada; parents Jewell and Carlene (Summy) Huckaby of Littleton (formerly Evergreen); siblings Cheryl (Leif) Colson of Conifer, Larry (Donna) Huckaby of Thornton and Randy (Martha) Huckaby of Englewood; in-laws Jerry and Cheryl Maurer and Dana (Brad) Talich of Nevada; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
He had a strong belief in music education in our schools. A tax-deductible memorial fund has been set up through the Oakland School District to support its music programs: P.O. Box 470, Oakland, OR 97462 – note: Lon Huckaby Memorial.
A celebration of life will be held at a later in date in Oregon and Colorado.
