R. Paul McCollister was born on Jan. 17, 1933, and was called home by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Feb. 22, 2014.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, John M. and Ruth Y. McCollister; his first wife, Sally H. McCollister; and brothers Edwin S. McCollister, John Y. McCollister and Howard R. McCollister.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara B. McCollister; his children, Kathy Manley (Mike), William McCollister (Cue), Karen Slivonik (John), Suzanne McCollister, and Robert P. McCollister Jr. (Heather); grandchildren Brittany, Melanie, Jason, Justin, Ashley, Tina, Andrea, Adam, Amy Jo, Nicole, Michael, and Alex; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Paul graduated from the University of Iowa in 1955. His family moved to Omaha, where he was a partner in his own real estate company with John Jenkins. While living in Omaha, he was active in many civic endeavors, as well as West Hills Presbyterian Church. In 1980, Paul married Barbara B. Haggart. A year later, Paul and Barbara participated in Stephen Ministries training in St. Louis, where they were commissioned Stephen Ministers.
In 1983 they moved to Evergreen, where they helped found Evergreen Christian Outreach, ministering to those in need for 10 years. In 1996, Paul and Barbara were called to begin a similar mission in Buena Vista. The Arkansas Valley Christian Mission opened in February 1997. Paul was an active servant in that ministry until his death.
A celebration of life service will be held later in the spring.
