Donald K. Peters, 83, died at home on July 23, 2017, in Evergreen after battling cancer.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Barbara Irene (Sobieszczyk).
Don and Barb raised five children: Ken Peters (Suzanne), Marcy Peters, Cheryl Fudge (Jack), Keith Peters (Donna), and David Peters (Pat). Don was the proud grandfather to Ryan Peters (Sara), Kyle Peters, Craig Fudge, Christopher Fudge (Grace), David Fudge (Jenny), Erin McKinney (Christopher), Curt Peters, Alex Peters, Alexandra Peters, and Lauren Peters. Don was especially proud of their great-grandchildren: Ryan Peters Jr., McClure Peters, Mila Fudge, Adrianna Fudge, Alexander Fudge and Lee Fudge.
Don was born in Detroit on May 26, 1934, to Roy and Josephine. Don's older brother Roy (Jane) preceded him in death. He is survived by his younger brother Warren.
Following his military service in the Air Force, Don spent 25 years as a Detroit police officer. He spent much of his police career in the mounted division and became an expert horseman and member of the drill team.
Don and Barb - who fell in love in Evergreen in 1952 - moved from Detroit to Evergreen in 1982. Don was heavily involved in local civic organizations and a long-standing member of the Evergreen Kiwanis Club. He also spent 25 years as the starter at the Hiwan Golf Club, where he loved to banter with the members at the first tee. The Tuesday Women's group twice talked him out of retirement.
Don will be missed as he touched so many people with his humor, and dedication to his family and the Evergreen community.
A viewing will be held at Aspen Mortuary, 1350 Simms, Lakewood, on Wednesday July 26, from 5 to 7 p.m.  A funeral Mass will be on Thursday, July 27, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Evergreen at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
