Evagene Margaret Nelson passed away on March 10, 2013, in Troutdale (Portland), Ore., from complications from dementia.
The Guest Book is expired.
Evagene Margaret Russell was born May 16, 1926, to Eva Reed (Russell) and Arthur Russell in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Evagene graduated from Idaho Falls High School, where she was involved with 4-H and was invited to a 4-H convention in Chicago with other 4-H kids from around the country. Evagene attended and graduated from Colorado Women's College in Denver in 1947, specializing in language arts.
While at CWC, Evagene met Richard Nelson; they married on Aug. 17, 1947. Since Richard was going to college at Denver University, Evagene worked outside the home so Richard could graduate. They had three children.
Richard and Evagene lived in Denver, Seattle and Evergreen. Evagene had executive secretary positions with Martin Marietta and Johns Manville in Denver, retiring from Johns Manville in 1990.
Evagene lived in Kittredge and Evergreen Meadows for 45 years from 1960 to 2005. In 2005, she moved to Loveland to be close to family, and in 2012 she moved to Portland, Ore., and lived in an assisted-care facility to be close to two of her three sons.
Evagene is survived by three sons, Scott and daughter-in-law Pam, Mark, and Brad Nelson; a brother, Arthur Russell; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In Evergreen, she knew many people over the years, and she was a very active member in the United Methodist Church of Evergreen.
There will be a celebration of life memorial service at the Methodist Church in Evergreen on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m. for those who would like to attend.
