Gregory Lee 'Mort' Meyer, 63
Gregory Lee "Mort" Meyer, 63, of Idaho Springs, formerly of Beardstown, Ill., died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at his residence.
He was born July 28, 1949, in Champaign, Ill., the son of Robert O. and Virginia Davis Meyer.
Surviving is his mother, Virginia Meyer of Beardstown; a brother and three sisters, Sonna (John) Livesay of Pana, Ill., Wally (Missy) Meyer of Beardstown, and Pam (Tim) Shocklee and Sandy (Sam) Seward, both of St. Louis, Mo.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and his nephew Matt Meyer.
Mort graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1967 and attended aeronautical training in Tulsa, Okla., where he became a licensed pilot. He moved to Colorado in the 1970s. An avid outdoorsman, Mort was adventurous and daring. He traveled extensively and enjoyed skiing, kayaking, whitewater rafting and mountain climbing, and was a motorcycle enthusiast.
A celebration of his life will be held in Idaho Springs in January; details are pending.
