Patricia Ann (McCoy) Gabel, 90, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, at Pine Pointe Hospice in Macon, Georgia.
Pat was born in Gary, Ind., on Sept. 22, 1928, to the late Russell and Helen (Knee) McCoy. She graduated from Edison High School in Gary and worked at US Steel and in banking before marrying the love of her life Nelson Thomas Gabel on Aug. 29, 1953.
They lived in Hobart, Ind., for 26 years and were blessed with four children, Nelson Leslie (63), Robin Lynn (61) David Thomas (58) and Sandra Lea (55).
Pat enjoyed singing, traveling with her family and writing about their travels. While living in Hobart, she wrote an article called "The Gabels on the Go" for the Hobart Gazette.
She was a full-time, stay-at-home mom until 1979, when they moved to Colorado and built their dream home in Bailey.
They started a construction business, Gabel Enterprises, which they ran together until Nelson's retirement in 2014.
Pat loved the Native American culture and started her own business, Patricia Ann of Colorado, where she sold authentic Native American jewelry and art throughout the West and Southeast.
She was a member of Beth Eden Baptist Church in Wheat Ridge and active in numerous clubs and organizations throughout her life. She was a 58-year life member, currently with the Mount Lookout Chapter, of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she served in various
roles and capacities over the years.
Pat was preceded in death by her daughter, Robin Lynn Dustman of Caputa, S.D.
Survivors are her loving husband, Nelson; children Nelson Leslie and Debbie Gabel of Valparaiso, Ind., David and April Gabel of Mead, Colo., and Sandra and David Davis of Gray, Ga.; several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 901 S. Sheridan Blvd., Lakewood. Funeral services will be held in the chapel at 11 a.m. on Thursday Oct. 4, 2018, with burial to follow at 1:15 p.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
