Penny Hand, 64, of Arvada passed away on Nov. 2, 2013, after a year-long battle with kidney cancer.

Penny was born in San Antonio, Texas, on Oct. 18, 1949, to Lawrence and Shirley Giles, and she grew up in Texas, New Mexico and California with her brothers Larry and Nick. She moved to Las Vegas, Nev., in 1970 and was involved in radio and TV advertising as well as owning an advertising agency.
She married her husband, Chuck, in 1980 and had three children before they moved to Colorado in 1993 to raise their family. They lived in Morrison and Conifer for close to 15 years, where Penny was heavily involved in church and school activities as well as softball, playing for years on the Little Bear softball team. She was also involved in the local music scene and had her own band, Penny and the Loafers.
She is survived by her husband, Chuck, of Arvada; son Remington (Jessica) of Denver; daughter Jessica Martin (Joshua) of Maple Hill, N.C.; and daughter Whitney Burt (Brandon) of Oak Harbor, Wash.; five grandchildren; and her brother Nick Giles of Las Vegas.
Penny was full of life, always had a smile on her face, was the life of every party and will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
Services will be held at her home church, Church of the Hills in Evergreen, at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8.
