Sonja Savig, 90, passed away Feb. 8, 2018. Sonja is lovingly remembered by her friends, and the families of her two deceased brothers, Norman Savig and Rusken Savig.
Daughter of Einar and Asta Savig of Norway, Sonja was deeply tied to her Norwegian roots, speaking both Norwegian and English. Born in Boston, she spent most of her youth in Denver, where she skied and spent many weekends at the family cabin in Indian Hills.
She graduated from East High School and the University of Denver. For 60 years she lived in Grand View-On-Hudson, N.Y., initially performing on and off Broadway. She later taught music while staying active in the folk music festival scene.
She was a member of the Norsemen of the Rockies her entire life. Sonja demonstrated a passion for independent living that will be dearly missed.
A celebration of her life will be held at Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church, 920 Kipling St., Lakewood, on Sunday, March 4, at 2 p.m.
