Susanne Lund Orth of Evergreen, beloved wife, wonderful mother and dear friend to all, passed away peacefully on Dec. 31, 2017, from complications related to her courageous 15-month battle with cancer. She was 52.
She was the beloved daughter of the late Inge and Robin Orth. She is survived by her husband, Dean B. Austin, daughter Kristina L. Halstead, son Jack A. Orth of Evergreen, and sister Hanne Orth in Denmark.
Susanne was born Jan. 18, 1965, in Olstykke near Copenhagen, Denmark. She enjoyed a wonderful childhood growing up with sister Hanne and late brother Henrik.
After moving to Colorado as an au pair, in 1984, she managed Bik Bok, a retail store in Cherry Creek North. She was loved by all the clientele, remembering names of her clients' children and even where the families vacationed.
In 1994, she began her more than 20-year career at The Boppy Co., where she was a gifted and successful salesperson. She applied her bigger-than-life energy to her business relationships, making her buyers her friends. Her warmth and contagious positivity will be missed more than words can say.
All will miss her "I'm so happy." She had an incredible love for family and a way of making friends feel like family with her big embrace and smile. She was generous with her time, giving back to the Evergreen Park & Recreation District's Special Needs Program and the community of Evergreen.
Her constant joy was her children. She was especially fulfilled in watching Kristina learn Danish at an early age and write a book, and in Jack's golfing talent and passion for flying. Her love of people and contagious, happy spirit transferred to both children. She was so very proud of both of them. Susanne sought to instill in her children a zest for life, a commitment to family and friends, and the power of a smile.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, from 1 to 4 p.m. with a toast/dedication at 2:30 p.m. at Tuscany Tavern, 32214 Ellingwood Trail, No. 110, Evergreen.
It's a special place for Dean, Jack and Kristina. It's where Dean and Susanne met and Susanne met Theresa, who is Kristina's caregiver. It's also a place Susanne and the kids frequented together. And, in Susanne style, the staff became her friend, and they are honored that they can take part. Heavy appetizers will be served with soft drinks, iced tea and lemonade.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Susanne's memory. The Evergreen Recreation Center has a foundation set up, and donations may be earmarked to special groups. Make checks payable and mailed to: Active 4 All Foundation, P.O. Box 1443, Evergreen, CO 80437-1443, In the memo line on the check, please write "Special Needs Program."
