Bill Schaake passed away on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, in Ellensburg, Wash. He was 87.
Bill was a teacher and the head football coach at Evergreen High School in the late 1970s and a local business owner in the early 1980s. His high school coaching career included stints in Abilene, Shawnee Mission East and Goodland, Kan. His college coaching career included stints at Wichita State, Minot State in North Dakota, Washburn and Kansas.
In 1951, Bill married his high school sweetheart, Darlene Schindler. He is survived by his wife of 66 years and their four children: son Alan of Mililani, Hawaii, (wife Johanna, sons Jason and Jeffrey); son Jay of Corvallis, Ore. (wife Kelly, daughters Jennifer and Emma-Kate, and son Josh); daughter Janice of Kenmore, Wash. (husband Mark Ohrenschall, daughter Rachel and son William); and daughter Denise of Ellensburg, Wash.
After retirement, Bill and Darlene moved from Evergreen to Ellensburg, Wash., to be closer to their expanding family. There they got seriously involved in their favorite pastime: collecting and selling antiques. They purchased an antique business and spent most of their retirement years happily running it from home in Ellensburg and from an antique mall in Cle Elum, Wash.
There will be a celebration of life event for Bill on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Rosewood Clubhouse, 1101 E. Umptamum Road, Ellensburg, WA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Ellensburg Friends of Hospice, 302 S. Main St., Ellensburg, WA 98926.
