John Peter Udema, 75, of Saguache lost his battle with cancer on Feb. 12, 2013.
He was born to the late Peter Udema and Betty Legault.
John spent his childhood and most of his adult life raising his family in the Conifer area. In later years, he lived in Strasburg, and for the last 13 years south of Sagauche. John's hobbies, in addition to his family, were Colorado history and geography, raising cows and team roping.
John is survived by his wife of 49 years and five months, Lois M. Udema of Saguache. John also is survived by six children: Skip (Tanya) Morris of Laporte, Minn., Cheri (Chris) Downare of Cañon City, Gary (Cathy) Morris of Wood Lake, Neb., Christine (George) Hartman of Conifer, John (Carla) Udema Jr. of Strasburg, and Julie (Monte) Innes of Saguache. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and his roping companion of the last 14 years, "Pistol."
Other surviving family include sisters Karen (Richard) Beye of Conifer, Donna Graves of Kremmling and Cheri Legault of Evergreen. He was preceded in death by one sister, Lori Legault.
John is dearly loved by his family, and those that knew him have the utmost respect and admiration for a wonderful man, husband and father.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Mountain High Christian Center, 8444 U.S. Highway 285 in Morrison.
