Jessie Kirk passed away peacefully at home.
The Guest Book is expired.
Jessie was born in Detroit, Mich., to Doreen and Herbert Whitfield. The family moved to Denver in the 1930s, and she graduated from West High School in 1941.
Jessie moved to Kittredge with her husband of two years in December 1954 where they raised their three children. In later years, Jessie was thrilled to be a grandmother, spending much time with her granddaughters. Jessie was a loving mother and wife, friend and neighbor. She simply loved people.
She was an avid bowler on several leagues into her 80s. She also enjoyed the outdoors and hiking. She loved to travel, taking numerous vacations with her sisters, children, granddaughters and friends.
Jessie loved working and took great pride in her accomplishments. Her philosophy was, "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing it right."
Jessie started working at a young age to help her large family during the Depression. In Kittredge, she had her own income tax/bookkeeping service, and worked in the Kittredge post office for 27 years. This is where she is best remembered by the community. True to her words, she was the force that moved the post office into the new age and location.
Jessie always stayed active in the community throughout the years. She was a Brownie leader, and was involved with the Boy Scouts, local PTA and as a room mother. She served on the Kittredge Sanitation Board and Kittredge Community Center. Most importantly, she took care of her friends and neighbors. After retiring from the post office, Jessie volunteered at Hiwan Homestead Museum and was active at the Evergreen Senior Center. Her light-hearted personality and often joyful singing will be missed.
She is survived by a son, David Kirk; two daughters, Susan Tsoupakis and Audrey (Chuck) Williams-Kirk; two granddaughters, Jessica Tsoupakis and Chelsea Williams-Kirk; her sisters, Margaret (Lindy) Scialla, Ruth Harding and Carol Harding; a brother, Robert Whitfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by husband Clyde Kirk, brother Edward Whitfield and both of her parents. We will always carry her in our hearts. We love you, Mom.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Mt. Evans Hospice, 3081 Bergen Peak Drive, Evergreen, CO 80439.
A celebration of life will be held at noon Saturday, April 13, at Kittredge Bible Church in Kittredge.
