Don Murray, 62, a 20-year resident of Evergreen, died peacefully in his home on Sunday, July 7, 2013, after a three-year battle with cancer.
Don was born in 1950 in Houston and grew up in Harahan, La. After graduating high school, Don began his 27-year career with Marriott Corp. He started in 1970 as an hourly audio-visual technician and worked his way up to executive management in the engineering department. Don worked at Marriott Hotels and Resorts from New Orleans to Palm Springs, where he made many lifelong friendships.
While working in New Orleans, he met his wife, Kathy. They married in November 1992. The couple moved to Evergreen in 1994 and started a family. Don left Marriott Hotels in 1998 and then worked locally for the Evergreen Metro District and Treatment Technology in the water and wastewater field. He was active in the Evergreen Children's Chorale for several years, helping with sets and lighting when his daughter was a member.
Don's loves included family, friends, nature, animals, aviation, firefighting and Jimmy Buffett. He found most joy, however, in helping the people around him in whatever capacity he could.
Don was preceded in death by his mother and father, Frankie and I.B. Murray; his son, Tyler Murray; and his father-in-law, Joe McDonough.
Don is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughters Kiley and Shannon; brother Kevin Murray (Cindy); mother-in-law Nancy McDonough; brother-in-law Pat McDonough (Nella), brother-in-law Steve McDonough (Joann), sister-in-law Sue Peterson (Jimmy), brother-in-law Paul McDonough (Mayra), brother-in-law Mark McDonough (Lisa); and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. July 11, 2013, at Our Lady of the Pines, 9444 Eagle Cliff Road in Conifer, followed by an inurnment at Evergreen Memorial Park, with reception to follow. For more information, visit
