RAMSEY, LT. COL. ROGER ROY (USA, RETIRED) Roger Roy Ramsey of Annapolis, MD passed away on January 12, 2013. Born in Uniontown, KS in 1933, he grew up on a farm where he raised cattle. Roger attended Pittsburg State University and graduated from their ROTC program as a second lieutenant. He was honored to be selected to the ROTC Hall of Fame a few years ago. He served 20 years on active duty. Roger was the youngest man selected for the Army War College in 1973, after receiving early promotion to LTC. He retired earlier than he had planned due to the premature death of his first wife, Diane, in 1974. She is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, where Roger will soon join her. After retirement from the military, Roger owned a marina in Deale, MD for many years. His love of boating and the water continued throughout his life. He continued to work full time and later part time in yacht sales, even after his health began to deteriorate. He was greatly loved by his mariner friends for his integrity and great sense of humor. Roger was a veteran of the Vietnam War whose medals included the Silver Star for gallantry in action, the Bronze Star for outstanding meritorious service, and the Air Medal for participation in more than fifty missions over hostile territory. LTC Ramsey is survived by a son, Scott T. Ramsey, two grandchildren, David and Daniel, from Severna Park, MD. He is also survived by his daughter, Suzanne K. Herrmann of Maple Grove, MN. Burial Services with full honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at 11AM followed by a reception at Fort Myer's Officer's Club from 12:30pm to 3:00pm. Contact Scott Ramsey at scottramsey@verizon.net or 703-304-5353 for details. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, (http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org) or to the ROTC scholarship fund of Pittsburg State University, in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Thank you, EVERYONE, for sharing your memories and thoughts on my dad! Dad always said that when he passed away, he didn't want us to be sad -- he wanted us to tell stories, drink a toast to him and remember the good times.
Dad was a FABULOUS story-teller! I've heard some of his stories a hundred times and I laughed every time. Best of all, he always laughed harder than anyone else. =)
If you have a good story about Roger you'd like to share - please post it here! I know that I and the rest of the family would love to hear them!
Lots of Love! Sue Herrmann (aka Suzanne Ramsey =)

A great guy who was always happy to see you. Scott Ramsey said that his dad was a man of few words but that when he spoke them they conveyed alot. He was also a man of positive words. I am hard pressed to recall a time over the 15 plus years that I knew him that he ever spoke negatively about someone. I'd like to be more like that because I think that style served Roger well and made him a great person.

I am a third cousin of Rogers and grew up with him all through grade and high school. Spent a lot of nights with his sister at his folks house. I have not known him very well since we grew up, but was always glad to see him when he came back home to visit. We really had a lot of fun growing up and I will remember him with fondness.

We have very fond memories of living across street from Roger in the community of Cedarlea, Matt working side by side in Deale and going to church together at St. James in Lothian. He always made us smile! We often still refer to our daughter as "Little Mess" as he lovingly nicknamed her when she was about 2 years old. She is now 19. He was a wonderful, sweet and generous man!

We have lost a dear friend and American Hero. Roger was a superb officer, fearless leader, and mentor. Those of us who shared his company over the years are much better as a result of those experiences. Scott, Suzanne, and all the grandchildren: You can be very proud of what Roger did for his Country, his family, and his friends. God Bless.
