Cecilia Elizabeth Curran Schmidt, 86, of Stevensville, passed away peacefully at her home October 23, surrounded by her loving family.
Born January 10, 1926, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna Virginia LaLonde Curran. She attended Barberton High School in Barberton, OH.
On August 2, 1947, she married Peter John Schmidt of Barberton, OH. She traveled with her husband throughout his career in the U.S. Navy. They lived in Grosse Isle, MI, Washington, D.C., Annapolis and Centreville. In 1984 they moved to Stevensville.
Mrs. Schmidt worked as a medical clerk at Anne Arundel Hospital in Annapolis. She was a member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Stevensville, where she was a member of the Altar Society. In addition, She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association in Annapolis, the Ladies Auxiliary of Elks Lodge #2576 of Stevensville, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus of Stevensville. Since 1990, Mrs. Schmidt also worked as a volunteer for the Red Cross at the Naval Medical Clinic at the U.S. Naval Academy.
Mrs. Schmidt was preceded in death by her husband, Peter J. Schmidt; a grandson, Daniel Slafkosky; and her sisters, Mary Jane Curran and Patricia Knowles.
She is survived by sons, Timothy J. Schmidt and his wife, Linda, of Queenstown, and Peter John Schmidt II of Stevensville; daughter, Michelle Ann Slafkosky of Catonsville; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 26, at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, at St. Christopher's Catholic Church, Chester. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery.
