Linda L. Thomas, 75, of Severna Park, died November 8 following a brief acute illness.
She was born March 1937 in Lewisburg, PA, graduating from Bucknell University with a Bachelor's degree in chemistry. In 1951, she married her beloved husband, Edward Thomas.
In addition to raising their three children, Linda was always involved with the lives of children in the community. She was an instrumental leader at Wood Memorial Presbyterian Church's Child Development Center, a Cub Scout Den Mother, Boy Scout Merit Badge Counselor, and score keeper for numerous Green Hornets sports teams. While the children were small, Linda ran an in-home preschool and then she entered the workforce as a teacher's aide and media aide in numerous schools throughout Anne Arundel County, finishing her career at Severna Park High School.
Family and friends benefitted from Linda's needlepoint and other crafts. Some of the most memorable include counted cross-stich and quilted nursery-themed wall hangings, Christmas tree skirts and ornaments, and a unicorn tapestry. She also always entertained trick-or-treaters in the Severndale neighborhood with elaborately carved pumpkins at Halloween.
She was preceded in death by her husband in May 2011.
Linda is survived by her son Phil and wife Rita; daughter, Emily and husband Louis; son, Hugh and wife Vicki; and three grandchildren, Christian, Abigail, and Matthew.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 13, at Woods Memorial Church on Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd., in Severna Park. A reception will follow at the church. Linda has donated her body to the State Anatomy Board for medical research purposes.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions in Linda's memory to the
to continue research for a cure for diabetes.
