William Kinney



William D. Kinney, 75, from the Woods Landing Community, died peacefully in Anne Arundel Medical Center on October 1 after a brief respiratory illness.
Born in Joplin, Missouri on July 20, 1937, William was a graduate of UC Berkeley and earned his PhD in engineering. He had a long career as an orbital engineer. He retired from both Comsat and Lock-heed Martin where he worked as a manager launching communication satellites, as well as a mission to repair the Hubble Telescope in 1993. Bill was an boater and sailor and enjoyed teaching boat safety and navigation as a member of the Power Squadron.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Olive Kinney and his twin brother Robert B. Kinney.
William is survived by his two sons, W. Jeffrey Kinney of Portland, Maine and John E. Kinney of Annapolis; and sister, Diane Reed of Bend, Oregon.
There will be a private ceremony on the Chesapeake Bay, a place where he enjoyed spending time with his family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a charitable donation to the American Lung Association.

Not a day goes by that I do not think of William Kinney and I will miss him very much. My heart and prayer are with you and your familys. Susan and Kyle (two of his grandchildren) will miss him and will think of him fondly. I know he is where he wants to be now. God Bless.
