Doreen Judge Obituary

JUDGE, DOREEN MASON, 88, of Edgewater, died at Hospice of the Chesapeake's Mandrin House in Harwood, Md. on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born April 25, 1925 in Nottinghamshire, England. She first came to the United States as a British war bride on the Queen Mary in 1946, following the end of World War II. She met her future husband Donald, an American serviceman, while she was serving with the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) in England. She often joked that she chose the ATS because she "liked their uniforms." Air Force bases in Germany, Japan, England and the U.S. were home for her and her family. She and her husband have lived in the Annapolis area since 1971. She was an avid reader, a consummate seamstress and knitter, and a competitive bridge player. In her later years, she was a period-costumed tour guide with Three Centuries Tours in Annapolis for 15 years, building on her extensive knowledge of American and British history. She and her husband traveled frequently, visiting such places as Spain, Russia, Peru, Egypt, and Italy, along with regular trips back to England to visit her family. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Donald Judge; daughters Annette (Michael) Patnode of Millersville; Kathleen (David Blacklock) Nemaric of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; Julie (Anthony) Pagnotta of Upper Montclair, N.J.; sister Frances Mason (Jack) Stephenson of Moorends, Yorkshire, England; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents Francis William and Hilda (Milton) Mason, brothers Raymond and Frank Mason, and daughter Janet Judge Howard. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 25 at 3PM at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name are recommended to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Hwy., Pasadena, MD 21122 or the Alzheimer's Association, 1850 York Road, Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093.
