David Cook Obituary

David Michael Cook, 49, of Chester, died January 30 at Genesis Health Care in Easton, after a long battle with Machado-Joseph's Disease (SCA III). Born in Newport, RI on March 5, 1963, he was the son of the late Philip Roger Cook and Patricia Lucy Alvarnas Cook. He grew up in Cape St. Claire in Annapolis, and was a 1982 graduate of Severna Park High School. David began working as a carpenter, and married Kelly Smith in 1986. The couple moved to Hollywood, FL, and David learned the art of Historic Restoration and Preservation, a career where he excelled until he became disabled in 1998. The couple moved back to Maryland, residing in Chester, and David spent his time caring for his children. David enjoyed fishing and loved the Miami Dolphins. He was personable and made many friends through the years. He was predeceased by a sister, Karen Childs, who died in 2005. In addition to Kelly, he is survived by his children, Lauren E. Cook and Tyler D. Cook, both of Savannah, GA; a granddaughter, Zuri L. Moerkerken; a sister, Beth Moyer of PA; and his brothers, Philip Cook Jr. of FL and Brian Cook of Glen Burnie. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 106 Shamrock Rd., Chester. A memorial mass will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 10, at St. Christopher's Catholic Church,1861 Harbor Dr., Chester.
