Emily Frye Obituary

FRYE, EMILY POULSON, 86, of Crofton, MD passed away August 22 in Harwood, MD, after a lengthy illness.

Emily was born July 8, 1926, in Huntingdon, PA. She was the youngest child of Reverend Omer and Emily Poulson. She was married to the late James R. Frye and was a long-time resident of Cheverly, MD before relocating to Crofton. There she was very active in the Community United Methodist Church serving on the church board and establishing a bridge to the Methodist congregations in Zimbabwe. Emily traveled to Zimbabwe several times, in some cases at a great danger to herself, to establish orphan trusts to pay for children's schooling. She also worked with the women of Murewa to set up their own business that would be self-sustaining. Emily and her good friend and fellow missionary Cleo McCoy became known as Gogo Emily and Gogo Cleo. Gogo translates to Grandmother.

Emily loved to spend time with her friends traveling, discovering new restaurants and playing bridge.

She is survived by her three children, Jim (Fern) Frye of Jacksonville, FL, Barbara (Ed-deceased) Murphy of Crofton, MD and Jay (Beverly) Frye of Annapolis, MD. She leaves behind seven grandchildren, Justin Frye, Shannon Fenix, Emily Faillo, Meghan Wilcox, Edmond Rory Murphy, Amanda Frye and Jesse Frye. She has three great grandchildren, Taylor Fenix, Paige Wilcox and Austin Faillo.

Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, August 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Community United Methodist Church, 1690 Reidel Road, Crofton, MD. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Emi/Cleo Orphan Trust in care of Community United Methodist Church.
