Karen Lee Layton, 67, a resident of Severna Park, died June 29 at Mandrin Hospice House in Harwood. Karen was born August 26, 1945 in The District of Columbia. One of four children, she was raised in Temple Hills, and lived in Severna Park for the past 27 years. She was an elementary school teacher for Prince George's County and an assistant teacher at Chesapeake Academy in Anne Arundel County for many years. She enjoyed being a mother and made her family's well being the focus of her life. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by her beloved husband of 46 years, Daniel O. Layton; daughters, Laura E. Layton, Kathleen M. Nutter, and Sara M. Fretwell, all of Severna Park; and five grandchildren, Emily, Madison, and Zachary Nutter, and Ella and Graham Fretwell. Friends may visit from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, at Barranco & Sons, P.A Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park.
