ALEXANDER, MARY MATSUO
Retired Seamstress, Homemaker,
Mary Matsuo Alexander, formerly of Edgewood, Maryland and later Bay Forest Senior Apartments Annapolis, died February 13, 2012 at the age 85. She was the beloved wife of the late Jackie Ray Alexander, mother of Bobby R. Alexander of Severna Park MD and Martha A. Meyn of Gilbert AZ. She is survived by four grandchildren and 3 great-grand- children.
Ms. Hiroko (Mary) Matsuo survived WWII, met her future husband Sgt. Jackie Alexander where both were working for the U.S. Army in General Douglas MacArthur headquarters in Tokyo Japan during the occupation. They were married December 1948. Where she entered into a class of military wives know as "War Brides". Her proudest achievements were getting her U.S. Citizenship and her driver's license and, along the way becoming totally Americanized and a good contributing citizen. She loved to go fishing and was an avid NFL football fan and was a member in the old COLT Corral out of Aberdeen, later became a RAVENS fan. After being widowed, she started volunteering with the Red Cross at Kirk Army Hospital as a "Grey Lady", which she did for 30 years. She also did volunteer work at her church the US Army Chapel on Edgewood Arsenal. In addition she was an accomplished seamstress, artist, and a member of a Japanese Dance Troop.
Family and friends may visit on Friday, February 17, 2012 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, 21146.
