Milton James Mekins, Sr. "Jim" of Pasadena, died April 2 in his home. Jim was born in Baltimore, but has lived in Anne Arundel County since 1950. Jim retired as a regional engineer for Mass Transit Administration, where he previously worked in administration and as a truck driver. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a volunteer firefighter for Glen Burnie then later for Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company and was a past Chief and board member. He was an Anne Arundel County Reserve Police Officer and became the Reserve Commander at Eastern District. He also served as Vice President and board member for the Lake Shore Democratic Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Virginia Mekins; sister, Ellie Preston; and his first wife, Peg Mekins. Jim is survived by his wife, Paula M. Mekins; son, Jim Mekins Jr. of Pasadena; three daughters, Debbie Vogelsang of Severn, Peggy Mekins-Calabrese of Hanover, and Brenda Geesaman of Centreville; two step-sons, Keith Bunn and Kevin Brown, both of Pasadena; two brothers, Edward E. Mekins of Bulls Gap, TN and John D. Mekins of Riviera Beach; sister, Mary E. Heward of Romney, WV.; and seven grandchildren, Sarah, Brian, Chris, Jenn, Stephanie, Lindsay, and Ashley; and great-granddaughter, Kristi. Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, April 7, at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, where Service will be held 10 a.m., Monday, April 8. Interment to follow at Glen Haven Cemetery.
