Patricia "Pat" Kay Diehl, 67, of Upper Marlboro, died July 14 in Lanham after battling lung cancer for several months.
Born in Maysville, KY, she attended school in Lexington, graduating from Henry Clay High School in 1962. She continued her education in Washington, DC at the George Washington University, where she was president of Kappa Kappa Gamma, and graduated in 1966. In 1967, she married James "Jim" Diehl. Pat was a military wife, mother, and homemaker and was once appointed 'Kentucky Colonel' by the Governor of Kentucky.
Pat was a director of music, held the position of choir director at Hope Presbyterian Church in Mitchellville for over 25 years, and was a member of the Southern Maryland Gospel Choir in Lexington Park. She enjoyed gospel music, singing, playing the piano and the flute, participating in choir and the marching band, teaching, and mentoring. She also enjoyed taking care of her cat, Tommy Two.
Mrs. Diehl is survived by her husband, Jim Diehl; two sons, Capt. Bill (Nok) Diehl of Arlington, VA and John (Jenn) Diehl of Salt Lake City, UT; four grandchildren, Joseph Diehl of Asheville, NC, Jackson, Henry, and Rainey Diehl, all of Salt Lake City, UT.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m., Friday, July 20 at Hope Presbyterian Church, 1100 Enterprise Road, Mitchellville 20721. Interment Fairview Cemetery, in Westfield, NJ at a later date.
