THOMPSON, BERKELEY C., age 91, a lifelong resident of Baltimore, passed away after a brief illness on June 11, 2013. She was born in Morrell Park to Thomas H. and Pearl Augusta Coburn (nee Stricker) on August 27, 1921. She was preceded in death by her husband, O. Lewis Thompson. She is survived by two children, Cheryl Underwood (husband Cecil), and Kenneth Thompson (wife Carolyn); two grandchildren, Sheila Philip (husband Michael), and Stephen Beares (fiancee Lisa); four great-grandchildren, Amy Philip, Benjamin Beares, Shelby Beares, and Mattigan Philip; two sisters, Doris Flack and Betty Beck, and numerous nieces and nephews. Berkeley loved and was surrounded by her family until the very end. A 1938 graduate of Western High School, she was an avid reader and loved learning. Baltimore Business College prepared her for a career and she worked at General Motors, Bevere & Co., and Tate Engineering. She loved travel and made many trips to New Mexico and several to France. In the past year she was delighted to be able to visit Ocean City, and to travel to Alabama for the wedding of her great grandson. Services were held June 13, 2013, with interment at Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge, MD. The family invites donations in Berkeley's memory - and in honor of the wonderful care she received throughout her final days - to Hospice of the Chesapeake Foundation (445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, Maryland 21401) or to Linthicum Heights United Methodist Church (200 Church Lane, Linthicum, Maryland, 21090), where she was a beloved and active member for many years.
