CASTAGNOLA, MARY J. JEAN, 84, a resident of Annapolis since 1956, died February 12 after a brief illness. Jean was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on December 7, 1929 to Charles and Teresa McLaughlin. She moved to Baltimore in 1940, and she graduated from Eastern High School in 1946. Jean worked as a secretary at the Thomas Smith Construction Company, Bates Jr. High School, Anne Arundel Medical Center, and the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club. She was a member of St. Mary's Church and Catholic Daughters. Jean was deeply devoted to her children and grandchildren, and she was known for her delightful sense of humor, her kindness, and her warm smile. She enjoyed word puzzles, playing scrabble and bingo, listening to live music, traveling with the St. John's Old Tenth Ward Irish Club in Baltimore, and visiting Marty's Playland while on trips to Ocean City. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Castagnola. She is survived by her son Michael J. Owen and his wife Debbie of Longwood, Florida; her daughter Jeannie Hall of Norfolk, Virginia; her daughter Mary F. Rausch and her husband Mike of Annapolis, her son Patrick S. Owen and his wife Karen of Annapolis, and her daughter Teresa Owen Sutherland of Annapolis. She is also survived by her grandchildren Katie Owen, Heather Underwood, Lauren Jargowsky, Jonathan Kaden, Christopher Rausch, Kevin Rausch, Patrick Owen, Noelle Owen, and Jack Sutherland; four great-grandchildren; and her sister, Nancy Keavney of Baltimore. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 18th, between the hours of 2pm 4pm and 6pm 8pm at Lasting Tributes Cremation and Funeral Care, 814 Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD 21401. A funeral service will be held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD 21401 on Wednesday, February 19th at 10:30. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
