James R. Carney, 87, a lifelong resident of Deale, died February 14 in Sun City Center, FL. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, retired as a Deale charter boat captain, and continued his love for the water operating the Deale WaterTaxi. He was a member of the VFW, the Moose and the Elks Lodge. He was preceded in death by his four brothers, Chester, Robert, William and Gene Carney. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Judith; four daughters, Sandra (Jorge) Alves, Andrea (William) Schoonover, Cheryl Wilkinson, and Lori (John) Suomela; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. A memorial service with military honors will take place Sunday, February 23 at Sun City Center Funeral Home, FL and a waterside memorial service in Maryland is planned for summer.
